Originally constructed in 1979, J.J. Henderson Towers has provided affordable housing for seniors 62 and older and disabled community members in downtown Durham for decades. The building is one of six Durham Housing Authority sites included in the DHA Downtown and Neighborhood Plan, a initiative preserving and developing over 2,400 mixed-income units serving residents across a range of area median incomes, from studio to three-bedroom apartments.
Renovations to all 177 units in this nine-story building included energy-efficient appliances, new kitchen casework, and updated interior finishes to create a healthier living environment. The scope also included HVAC upgrades, mechanical and electrical system improvements, enhanced interior air quality, and a new roof.
