Western Michigan University's first new housing project in more than 50 years, Western View Apartments, was designed to give upperclassmen an alternative option from traditional residence halls and keep students living on campus longer. Research shows that students who stay on campus for four years do better academically and become more engaged alumni.

Progressive Companies worked with American Village Builders as a design/build team on Western View student housing, which features one- to four-bedroom apartments with a coordinating number of private baths. The on-site clubhouse provides community-building opportunities and a retreat for focused and group study. It features a fitness area, study areas, kitchen, TV lounge, basketball court, and outdoor patio with fireplace. This project also includes parking for approximately 300 cars. The buildings are stick-built and three stories in height with synthetic slate roofs and exterior masonry.
