Fox Sports Workplace Renovation & Brand Experience

As one of only two Fox Sports broadcast hubs in the country, the Charlotte campus plays an important role inthe network’s national operations. Progressive Companies partnered with Fox Sports to refresh key workplace environments and create a stronger connection between their Charlotte and Los Angeles offices.

The work began with a targeted refresh of conference rooms, replacing dated carpet, wall finishes, and lighting while coordinating with the client’s furniture vendor. The immediate transformation established a new visual direction for the workplace and led to a more comprehensive renovation of Fox Sports’ graphic design department.

A Workplace Designed for the Creative Process

The graphic design department presented a unique challenge: a long, narrow-floor plate beneath a 23-foot-high structural deck. The design uses ceiling, lighting, material, and architectural elements to bring the space to a more human scale while maintaining an open, collaborative environment.

A custom acoustical baffle system transitions from a white ceiling plane above the workstations to a black, gently angular plane deeper within the space, creating rhythm and definition without physically dividing the department. Warm wood tones reference Fox Sports’ Los Angeles workplace, reinforcing a consistent brand experience andsense of connection between teams on both coasts.

A purpose-built feature wall adds privacy while creating opportunities for storytelling. The curved wood privacy wall screens restroom circulation and shields workstations from the main corridor. Both sides of the wall serve as changeable display surfaces for the graphics team’s seasonal campaigns. RGB-tunable lighting washes the curved wall, allowing the environment to shift from signature Fox Sports blue to colors supporting current campaigns and events.

Designing for Performance

Because the team spends its days working with video and color-critical graphics, lighting and acoustics required particular attention. Small-aperture, fully dimmable fixtures replaced oversized fluorescent lighting, allowing employees to adjust illumination based on task and available daylight. Foot-candle levels, glare, and adjustability were carefully evaluated to improve visual comfort.

The suspended felt baffle system was also customized to eliminate movement from air currents while maintaining removable sections for easy access to HVAC systems above.

Schedule was equally critical. The project had to align with Fox Sports’ July-to-June capital cycle, accommodate the network’s sports calendar, and integrate with a larger renovation already underway. Progressive Companies worked closely with Fox Sports and the general contractor to adjust specifications around material lead times while protecting the overall design intent.

The Result

A once-dated workplace is now a flexible, brand-forward environment designed around the needs of a highly creative team. Adjustable lighting gives employees greater control over their work environment, acoustic elements improve comfort, and adaptable display walls give the graphics department a prominent place to showcase its work.

More than a renovation, the project creates a recognizable Fox Sports experience - connecting Charlotte and Los Angeles through a shared material language while giving the Charlotte team a distinct workplace of its own.
