A Transformational Sports Venue for the Heart of Grand Rapids

Designed With the
Community, For the Community
Community engagement was a priority for all stakeholders from the outset of this project. Progressive conducted fourteen intensive sessions to gather feedback from neighborhood groups, local business owners and community stakeholders. This input ensured the stadium's design was directly aligned with the community's aspirations.
The stadium's design prioritizes accessibility and inclusivity, with multiple entry points providing convenient access. Progressive and its partners collaborated with Disability Advocates of Kent County early on to integrate Universal Design principles. The stadium's aesthetic pays homage to West Michigan's heritage as a builder community, incorporating elements inspired by the furniture history and modern-day designs.
The fan experience is a key focus of the stadium’s design. Every seat is carefully positioned to offer optimal views of the pitch, and the stadium’s dynamic public spaces are available for community use even on non-event days. Behind the scenes, state-of-the-art amenities will benefit athletes and spectators alike, including facilities for neurodivergent individuals and families.
Contributing to a Vibrant Grand Rapids
Beyond the stadium, plans for a vibrant social district surrounding the stadium are already in motion. Like the revitalization sparked by Van Andel Arena, this development aims to activate the surrounding area into a bustling hub of activity and connectivity year-round.
The City of Grand Rapids staff has been integral in moving the project forward, helping navigate stakeholder engagement, regulatory approvals and guiding the design team through challenges that arise. With special land use approval secured in early 2024 and groundbreaking in spring 2025, the stadium is on track for a spring 2027 debut.
When complete, the Amway Soccer Stadium will be a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven design. It’s not only a sporting venue, it’s a symbol of Grand Rapids' commitment to progress and bringing people together for generations to come.
