Decades in the Making
For more than 60 years, our architects, engineers, consultants, and designers have honed and refined our process — both internally and within the marketplace. Founded in 1962, the firm prioritized smart design and strategic growth from the beginning. We completed our first merger — with KSV Architects — in 1985, later incorporating two additional firms in 2012 and 2016.
We’re lifelong learners, constantly challenging ourselves to be more streamlined, intuitive, and comprehensive. We apply that same iterative process to each of our projects. We question every angle and consider every point of view. Then we consolidate and analyze the data to ensure we’re getting the best outcomes, while considering human experience, business processes, infrastructure, and financial performance.
Over the decades, we’ve expanded our services, opening offices in Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC. We have been named AIA Michigan’s Firm of the Year twice, and AIA North Carolina's Firm of the Year as well. All of this growth has positioned us to serve clients in 49 states. Each milestone has expanded our expertise and strengthened a foundation that better positions us to serve each and every client and project.
1962
The Beginning
Progressive Engineering Consultants is founded by our four friends – Fred Bagge, Bernie Baur, Sam Feravich, and Earl Goozen. One of their first projects is with national grocery chain, Meijer. The project would develop into a rich relationship and act as a driving force of the firm's growth. Sam Feravich is named president.
1985
Merger with KSV Architects
Through the merger with KSV, the firm now offers architecture services. In response, the name is changed to Progressive Architecture, Engineering and Planning.
2002
National Reach
The firm's retail practice continues to grow with projects throughout the country. For the first time, licensures are held outside the Great Lakes region. The firm is named AIA Michigan's Firm of the Year for the first time.
2012
Merger with Design Plus
The merger grows the learning market portfolio while adding expertise in housing. Progressive AE is now one of the largest firms in West Michigan.
2016
Merger with ai Design Group
A physical presence in Charlotte, NC, continues the firm's growth and expansion throughout the nation. Combining portfolios furthers expertise in retail and workplace.
2023
Detroit Office Opens
Opening an office in the heart of Detroit supports the firm's continued expansion, now serving 49 states and connecting to talent emerging from Michigan's largest city.
